Hardwax-oiled surfaces do require some maintenance. You can buff off the excess finish and restore the finish to a new state, but you should do so with care. How often you should do this depends on how often you use your floor and the climate in which you live. A cotton terry cloth towel is ideal when buffering off the excess finish. Before buffing, be sure that the towel is clean and dry.
How to Buff Hardwax Oil?
It’s important not to apply too much oil or work too fast. The best technique is to work on one board at a time and finish when you’ve completed the board. It’s also best to use a soft polishing pad or a buffing machine.

For floors, you can use a floor brush, a smooth spatula, or a short-haired roller. First, pour a small amount of hard wax oil into a flat tray or an enormous container of treatex wax oil. You’ll need enough oil to cover 20 to 25 square meters of floor. Then, use a brush to spread the oil evenly across the entire surface.
Hardwax oil tends to be sticky, so it’s crucial to protect your flooring as much as possible. You’ll need to keep a rag handy to remove any accidental buffing. Also, keep the window open and the fan running.
